I once had two of our Pits fight and when the son came after the dad, fear separated them. My husband shouted STOP. Their jaws did not lock as their temporamandibuilar is not created to have that mechanism. A second time the son got stupid, I splashed them with a pot of water. They stopped immediately. We are a family of many females and needless to say keeping the first born son of a pit momma that was given away pregnant was not smart when we had daddy in the home. But, once the son found a forever home, it has been six years of bliss. They all sleep in the house, on the recliner, sectional, our beds and our child’s. They all have a kennel with crate door open and never fight over food, love or effection. I recommend investing in privacy fence for pit owners to keep out unwanted visitors. It has been nine years they have all lived and loved together. Our oldest is our baby girl and she has endured cancer. Now she has a bit of staring in the room into space. I will surely have a broken heart when she joins our previous two loving pets at The Rainbow Bridge.
If you are going to Lead your Pits, like my husband has, then they know what No means. Locking of jaws is a mistaken myth. The only time a pit may lock is when they are mating!
And yes, most of our loving Pits are American Bull, Staffies and Pit mix. But, if I look at each of them lying on our bed now, they are precious babes equivalent to you looking at your child. I could not have children, but I have been blessed to have married an awesome dog lover that has filled our lives with several dogs. They are our children. They are respected, they love us and each other. They are so smart, they know that when we return home from work each day that our hearts are happy the moment we arrive. We love our dogs. My husband owns a landscaping business and the few yards that he has been attacked by a dog with the sound of machinery in use, was by ankle biter small homeowner pets. They too latch on and he has a greater respect walking toward a pit in a back yard then the 9 lb fluffy pets!
I highly suggest all people ignorant to the true meaning of a pitbull watch the documentary “beyond the myth” and go out and buy yourself a pitbull they are the most loving trusting loyal dog you will ever come across.
I don’t need to say amymore most people with outlooks like the woman with the sad lcked up pitty bull on her profile are so wrapped up in the lie spoken on TV and rely only on media for their education instead of doing their own research like mayne spending one on one time with the breed itself (reason I don’t watch tv, its poison) I just end up defending my dogs and all others till I’m blue in the face
My favorite thing to do when I’m walking my blue mose cropped eared beautiful dog is when someone looks terrified we approach them and demand some pets and lve HA then my girls kill them with kisses!!
Anyway good luck I’m all about my bully pups! Pits will always have a place in my home and heart I actually own adog that was once a bait dog she’s the best dog I’ve ever had more love to give than any other dog I’ve ever owned…. I’m happy I was there to give her tue second chance she deserved I wasnt there to judge or stereotype against her just give her a chance and she’s been a wonderful compainion These past 5 years
